HSBC MAKING A MAJOR CONTRIBUTION TO CANADIAN SPORT
HSBC continues to make a significant difference in hundreds of
communities around Canada. Their Title Sponsorship of the 2006 HSBC Brampton Pan American Triathlon will allow the best athletes from
around the
world to race in Brampton Ontario July 1st and 2nd. It has been
ten years
since the Canadian National Championships have been held in
Ontario and
HSBC's support of the 2006 weekend will allow a celebration of
athletes from
12 to 80 years of age in Canada's most populated region.
Olympic
Champion
Simon Whitfield will have a chance to win another record setting National Championship in front of many of the fans who supported him as a
junior back
in the early 90s. Whitfield will be pushed by an international field of
athletes from USA, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
Montreal's Samantha McGlone has won the last two consecutive Women's Canadian
National
Triathlon Championships. McGlone will be challenged for victory by
Pan
American Gold Medalist Jill Savege and Quebec's Kathy Tremblay.
"HSBC's support of the 2006 National Championships was one of the major
reasons TSN decided to nationally televise the event" said 2000 Olympic coach
Barrie
Shepley. For a sport to grow, its has to be seen on television
and TSN's coverage of the Brampton based international weekend will be shown
from
Newfoundland to Vancouver Island on July 16th.
The HSBC
celebration
weekend will include the Friday June 30th
Triathlon Canada awards
banquet,
the Saturday July 1st Tri-Cool Brampton community participation
relay races and the full day of National Championship racing Sunday July 2nd.
"HSBC is
a bank known all over the world for its commitment at the local
level and I
am confident that the 2006 HSBC Brampton Pan American Triathlon
will be one
of the most competitive events in Canada's history" said former
Coach Barrie Shepley.
