C3 KINETICO KIDS
OF STEEL TRIATHLON A RECORD SUCCESS
Nearly 600 kids and families attended
the 6 th annual C3 Kinetico Kids of Steel Triathlon under nearly perfect
weather conditions. Race director Stewart Barclay and his 200 volunteers
believed the event was the best-ever, with tremendous competition amongst
the children and a chance to enjoy one of spring's first great weekends.
"Over the years we have had rain, hail and cool breezes, this year we had
absolutely perfect weather" said Barclay. C3 began the event in 2001 to
increase the activity level of Caledon/Orangeville children and families.

"This year we had over 100 children in the 3-6 year age category once again
making it the largest in the country" said Barrie Shepley. "I met two
family's who have children who are four years of age and they have done our
mini-triathlon for three years" said the coach of the Olympic 2000 champion. The
day had many highlights. Eighty-year old Jimmie Georgas did the morning duathlon (run-bike-run) winning his category and inspiring the many parents
at how good the 10x World Champion is. Georgas is from Collingwood Ontario
and has been representing Canada at the international level for over 60
years (in skiing, cycling and duathlon).
A second highlight of the day
was 11 year old Alicia Denoon from Guelph. Denoon is a cancer survivor and
the many operations and chemotherapy weakened her muscles and eye-sight.
Denoon did the event in a special wheel chair/bike and was all smiles at the
finishing line of the Kinetico sponsored event.
"Triathlon is a sport where
clean water and clean air are important to our sport" said Barrie Shepley.
"Phillip Adsetts and his team from Kinetico are a perfect fit for our event"
said Shepley. "Kinetico believes in clean / clear water and being
environmentally friendly and those are two important belief's that C3 and
Kinetico share" said Stewart Barclay. Ontario's best elite triathletes are
members of C3 and the elite team did a mini-race demonstration for the local
parents during the full day affair. C3 will be running spring and summer
activities for kids and parents in both swim-bike and run. Any parents
looking to get their kids involved, or participating themselves should check
out the C3 website www.c3online.ca or
contact the C3 offices in Inglewood at 905-838-2662.
"Outside of watching Simon Whitfield run his last 200m during the Sydney
Olympic Games, I don't have many things that excite me more then watching
those 600+ kids and their parents running to the finishing line of the Kinetico KOS Finishing Line" said Barrie Shepley.
