New Record Set at 3rd Annual C3 - Kinetico Run Festival

"When it was damp this morning, I was concerned on how many walk-up adults and kids would show up, but the cars just continued coming and by the time the Kinetico 1 Miler began we had over 1100 kids" said former Olympic Coach Barrie Shepley.
"It was truly inspiring to see so many kids, with such big smiles creating a NEW NATIONAL RECORD for kids in a 1 mile run" said Kinetico President Phillip Adsetts.
"Not only did Phillip Adsetts get on the podium in the 10km run, he also masterminded the Kinetico Running Festival. "C3, K-Swiss, Royal Containers, Boston Pizza, Running Free, and the 150 volunteers really stepped up and executed wonderfully" said Phillip Adsetts.
In addition to surpassing 1100 kids, the event also filled up the shelves in the local FOOD BANK.
C3 chairman Glenn Gundermann was pleased to see the club's top athletes win the 10km Dave Sharratt (men) and 5km Karsten Madsen (men) and Kirsten Vergara.
"At 12 years of age, Kirsten Vergara's victory today in the women's 5k (in 18 minutes 58 seconds) was as impressive as our 74 (Don Bourne) and 75 (Gord Brockie) year olds were" said race director Stewart Barclay.
Over forty families had two or more children in one of the races and a number of families had four or five children in the event. The Madsen family had dad Ken 4th (40-49 men), mom Katherine 2nd (40-49 women), and son Karsten overall race winner in 16 minutes and 31 seconds.
The 10km men's race winner Dave Sharratt had an incredible 31 minute 59 seconds time. "I have really been running well in the last four weeks and was very pleased with today's run" said the 2x Ontario College Running Champion. Sharratt was more pleased seeing his 2 year old niece
cross the finish line with her mother, father (James Loaring), and grandpa (John Loaring).
"Six or seven of my old athletes were at the race with their kids in the 1 mile run" said Shepley.
Competitors in the K-Swiss 5k and 10k were thrilled with the incredible shoes, socks, bags and towels that were given away to the award winners. "Rarely have I seen such great prizing in a running race" said 50 year old age group champion Hans Porten. "While many people will have
known shoe company K-Swiss from their affiliation with tennis, the shoe experts have recently created a full running shoe line in the last few years". "I can't tell you how happy Kinetico is to be affiliated with K-Swiss in our Running Festival and I am excited that we have the
opportunity to spread the word about their great product" said Kinetico President Phillip Adsetts. In the last three years dozens of North America's top elite and age group runner/triathletes have switched to the high-tech K-Swiss shoes.
C3 race organizers want to personally thank all the families who made the trip to Caledon to help set a new National Record. While emails are continuing to come into race organizers, the following email captured the essence of many of the participant's feelings about the event.
"That was an awesome event and the organization was first class. How you did all this with so many last minute entries is beyond me. You guys are real pros! Thanks for getting so many kids motivated to run. We need to get kids moving so badly and it was amazing to see so many of
all abilities out on the trail" said Nikola Boadway.
C3 was the first event of Caledon Day and were proud to supply the yearly festival their biggest numbers ever. "Having been to Caledon day the in the past, I can't believe how many people the Kinetico Run Festival brought out to the local day" said Ward Yorke.
Local sports photography icon Trent Dilkie took several hundred digital pictures of the day. Many pictures will be posted in the next 24 hours at www.trishots.com.
In addition, race results for those in the Kinetico 5k and 10k races can be found at www.chiptimeresults.com.
"I know how many friends, colleagues and sponsors committed to the success of our run this weekend and on behalf of all of C3, I want to thank them all" said former Olympic Coach Barrie Shepley. "As many hours as the volunteers work to create the event, its all worth it when the kids
start to run" said Bob Knuckey.
The event attracted many big personalities. Lake Ontario swimmers Jade Sacoogmaillo and Miguel Vadillo were at the finish line as was Olympic triathlete Colin Jenkins. While international triathlon Champion Sean Bechtel was out all day supporting the kids, Canada's greatest female
marathon champion Sylvia Ruegger was racing. "Few of the kids getting their medals would have known that in 1984 Sylvia was 8th in the Olympic Marathon and the next year won the Houston Marathon in a Canadian record of 2hr 28 minutes (a time that still stands). "Having a legend like
Sylvia at our race was simply amazing and we are very appreciative of her taking time from her busy schedule" said her former training partner Bob Knuckey.

C3's Taylor Reid and Andrew Yorke Top Runners in Chicago International Cross Country Race

Caledon's Taylor Reid and Andrew Yorke have just finished their triathlon seasons and they have quickly moved into their University cross-country seasons proving their triathlon fitness is transferable to running only.
In Chicago this past week, C3's Andrew Yorke finished 11th out of 550 athletes from 40 universities and 19 year old Taylor Reid was 33rd. "For these two guys to just finish up racing triathlons in Hungary (Yorke) and Scotland (Reid) and then get right back
to McMaster University Running is truly incredible" said their head coach Barrie Shepley.
Andrew Yorke grew up in Caledon East and went to school at Humberview in Bolton, where he ran track/cross-country and did triathlons, racing with C3.
Taylor Reid grew up in Inglewood and went to school at Mayfield where he ran track, cross-country, and raced triathlons with C3.
"What is so impressive about Andrew and Taylor is that they fully realize the importance of balancing academics and athletics" said coach Shepley. Nineteen year old Taylor Reid says that growing up in the shadow of Caledon's Sean Bechtel and Andrew Yorke
gave him incredible motivation and world-class training partners that has made a huge difference in his development. Reid finished off the triathlon season as the top Canadian at the World Championships in Scotland, while Yorke finished off the season as the
top 23 and under athlete at the World Championships in Budapest Hungary.
"How cool is it, that the two of the best young athletes in the world grew up in Caledon, train together, and now are student-team-mates at McMaster University" said their coach Barrie Shepley. Shepley is a McMaster graduate and their former university
running coach, and believes that McMaster is the best fit for young university student-athletes. "McMaster has world class swim and run coaches who have made a tremendous contribution to Andrew Yorke and Taylor Reid's development" said Shepley.
The Caledon duo, are currently up for a number of prestigious awards. Both boys are up to be recognized by Triathlon Canada as the top athletes in their age categories in the country and additionally are highly likely to win QUEST FOR GOLD athletic bursaries for 2011.
"Andrew and Taylor are two incredibly hard-working student-athletes and C3 and I are very proud of the quality of young men they are evolving into" said Shepley.
