Spring has sprung! C3 members- why not join C3 on Saturday, April 3rd for our first outdoor bike ride

of the season with C3 coach Hans Porten? The weather is perfect and we will be leaving from the

Caledon Community Complex at 9:15am. We hope to see you there.

Perhaps the warm weather and opportunity to train in the Sun has you getting excited about the

coming triathlon season! It won't be long before we'll be swimming in the quarry again and talking

about our most recent races. Don't forget to sign up for your C3 membership for 2010.

There are a number of great options designed for every budget. For more information, click here.

Some parents have been thinking ahead to the summer because our KOS Triathlon Clinic from

May 14th to June 25th is now full. Parents with registered kids, don't forget to send in your

registration and waiver forms to Luisa. Thanks to all the parents that have registered their kids!

8th Annual C3 High Performance Team Gold Day

Around the Bay

Congratulations to Everyone that Participated in the Around the Bay Road Race in Hamilton on Sunday, March 28th!

For some this was the first race of the season.  What a way to start the season!

Kirsten finished second in her category and Pauline finished third in her category.  Fantastic girls!

Hans achieved the silver medal standard.  The day after the race Hans said: "I never ran more than

21km in my entire life and my longest run from Jan. to now was 15k.".  Hans, we can only imagine

what you could do with the proper training.  Next year go for the gold!

There was a great turnout from current C3 members, past C3 members and friends of the club.

With apologies to anyone we may have missed, we know that these fine people were there:

What are your plans?

One of the great things about belonging to a group, besides training together, is to participate in

events together.  We would like to know what events you are registered or planning on registering

for so that we can share this information with our members.  Some people would race more if they

knew who was racing where.  Email Glenn at glenn@c3online.ca.

Caledon KOS Triathlon- 10 years and counting

 Register Now!

Most of us can remember where we were 10 years ago when Simon Whitfield won the gold medal in Sydney Australia. The 23 year old stunned virtually everyone with his historic gold-medal final

sprint.   As the head coach of the Canadian Olympic Team, I had watched Simon grow from a

12 year old Kids of Steel Participant from Kingston Ontario to one of the strongest men to ever

participate in the sport.  Simon's passion and competitiveness are unequalled and he backed his gold in Sydney with a silver in 2008 in Beijing.    He  hopes to go to his 4th Olympics in London

in 2012. When I came home from the Olympics, people were so excited about Simon's win, that C3

decided to start a local Kids of Steel Triathlon to honour Simon's great accomplishment.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the KOS triathlon and the 10th anniversary KOS race will

have some special prizes and gifts.   Simon Whitfield has agreed to sign autographed copies of his

new book (to all age group winners AND to 10 participants who register for the May 30th race by

May 1st, 2010). The event has evolved over the years as well. A few years ago, we added a 5km

run in the middle of the day as well as adult pool triathlon (400m pool swim, 15km bike, 5km run).

Why not get a head start on your racing season and enter the adult triathlon to make it a family

event?

If you can't pariticipate and want to help out, why not volunteer? Nearly 100 volunteers are required

each year to make the day a success and we hope that each of you will consider contributing.

Volunteering  to help with the event is easy. Simply email Luisa Ruby at  ltruby@rogers.com

Without the help of the many sponsors, C3 events would never take place.  Our title sponsor,

Kinetico has been world-class and have always wanted to make sure that every child/family felt like they were

part of a world-class event.  While many other sponsors have helped immeasurably over the years

(and we thank them), C3's Kim Nelson and Royal Containers have been instrumental as to why the

yearly event is the biggest and best in Canada.

Golf for Futue Olympians- Fundraiser

8th Annual C3 High Performance Team Golf Day

The C3 High Performance Team is a very unique part of our club.   Head Coach Barrie Shepley has seen many great athlete's over the years, disappear from sport due to lack of financial and

emotional support. Many club's like C3 exist in Europe, Australia and New Zealand and nearly 20

years ago, Coach Barrie Shepley, Sandra Bowden, Stuart Dorland,  Roy Till, Martin Rydlo and others started the club to help age group people (like most of you) and to help fund-raise / support

elite athletic performance.    The team raises 100% of their own funds each year through a series

of events. It is important to note that C3 membership dues do not contribute to the high

performance team. These funds are used to cover costs for age-group and youth related activities.

The team could use your help in several ways.

1. Come to the May 26th Golf-Afternoon at the Caledon Golf and Country Club (and evening supper)

2. Come to the May 26th post-golf supper and silent auction gift

3. Donate a gift to the silent auction table

4. Donate money (for a tax credit) to the team

5. Donate frequent flyer points to the team (for air-travel)

"The team has been blessed with great specialized bikes from Gears Bike Shop, running shoes and

clothing from Merrell Shoes,  Financial Support from Personal Best, Royal Containers, Kinetico and

Munch Financial" said Shepley, "but we are still about $20 000.00 short of the revenue we need to

raise to ensure that the entire program is a success for 2010".

Coach Barrie would like you to consider getting involved by emailing him at barrie@personalbest.ca
